Over the five year period, subtle differences in monthly temperature are notable, particularly at higher latitudes.

Product Description
The level-3 MODIS global Land Surface Temperature (LST) and Emissivity monthly data are composed from the daily MYD11C1 product and stored as the averaged values of clear-sky LSTs during a monthly period in a 0.05-degree (5600-meter) geographic Climate Modeling Grid (CMG).

MYD11C3 is a level-3 product comprised of daytime and nighttime LSTs, quality assessment, observation times, view angles, bits of clear-sky days and nights, and emissivities retrieved in Bands 20, 22-23, 29, and 31-32.

Version-5 MODIS/Aqua Land Surface Temperature/Emissivity products are validated indirectly through the daily 6-km product, MYD11B1, to Stage 1, meaning that accuracy has been estimated using a small number of independent measurements obtained from selected locations and time periods and ground-truth/field program efforts. Although there may be later improved versions, these data are ready for use in scientific publications when monthly averaged LSTs are applications-appropriate.
