Product Description
The MODerate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Surface Reflectance products are computed from bands 1-7 to provide an estimate of the surface spectral reflectance for each band as it would be measured at ground level in the absence of atmospheric scattering or absorption. A correction scheme identifies atmospheric gases, aerosols, and thin cirrus clouds.
The MODIS/Aqua Surface Reflectance State Daily L2G Global 1km SIN Grid product, MYD09GST, is a restructured version of the quality data in level-2 surface reflectance. MYD09GST summarizes the quality of the MYD09 products, including atmospheric and other correction states. The product specifically contains information pertaining to cloud and cloud shadow, land and water designations, aerosols, and the data source of corrections performed on the file. MYD09GST contains three Science Data Sets (SDSs); reflectance data state quality assurance, the number of observations, and observation coverage for each pixel.
The true-color RGB image above is 500m Surface Reflectance over the Arabian Peninsula acquired February 13, 2004. The corresponding pseudo-colored MYD09GST shows the land/water state of 1km MYD09 data, as described by the legend below. The image in the bottom right is a subset of the lower left corner of the MYD09GST, and emphasizes the detail with which the land water state is displayed.
